    Energy Manager Game

    Powering learning through play.

An interactive multiplayer game that uses gesture-based controls and immersive projection mapping to turn energy management into a dynamic, hands-on experience. First installed in 2019, it's still active today, with recent updates keeping it fresh and engaging.

    Brief

The Mishkat Interactive Centre wanted to replace a static film projection on its nine-metre curved table with an immersive installation designed to teach visitors about energy management and sustainability. The goal was to create a replayable, interactive experience that encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making while reflecting Saudi Arabia’s energy landscape. The experience also needed to be accessible to school groups, families, and adults, supporting both Arabic and English audiences.

    Our Approach

Working closely with Mishkat and key stakeholders, we began with a series of collaborative ideation sessions to define the game’s objectives and experience design. Together, we explored how to make energy management understandable, interactive, and fun.

From those sessions, we developed a gesture-based control system using motion sensors, paired with multiplayer gameplay to encourage teamwork among families and school groups. Projection mapping transformed three nine-metre curved tables into dynamic interactive surfaces, while content was tailored to Saudi Arabia’s energy challenges to ensure the experience was both immersive and relevant.

We set out to transform a three nine-metre curved tables from a static display into a dynamic, hands-on experience.

    Our Solution

The result was a large-scale multiplayer game projected across three sweeping curved tables. Players take on the challenge of balancing energy supply and demand, reacting to real-time natural and human-made events, and making strategic choices between renewable and non-renewable sources. Combining projection mapping, gesture-based controls, and dynamic gameplay, the installation delivers an immersive learning experience for audiences aged eight and above. Fully bilingual in Arabic and English, it integrates seamlessly into Mishkat’s exhibition and has been running since 2019, with regular updates keeping it fresh and engaging.
